Shaurya Singh is a rising talent in South African chess and a dedicated member of the Steinitz Chess Club in Cape Town. Representing the Western Cape, he has delivered consistently strong performances at both regional and national level events. In 2023, he achieved a notable victory in the Intermediate section of the Western Cape Women’s Championship in Langebaan, while still in primary school, signaling his early promise. The same year, he went on to win the Western Cape Individual School Chess Tournament. Shaurya has since continued to distinguish himself in national competitions. At the 2025 South African Junior Closed Chess Championship (U14 Open), he scored 7 points out of 9, finishing in 3rd place. He has also competed in other high-level events such as the Moja Chess Extravaganza and the Cape Town Masters, further cementing his reputation as one of the Western Cape’s strongest junior players. Beyond results, Shaurya is an active and enthusiastic participant in the local chess scene. His dedication to continuous improvement and his growing track record of tournament success make him one of the promising young players to watch in South African chess.
