Pierre Goosen
FIDE: 1402, CHESSA: 1403
Pierre Goosen is a South African chess player who in recent years relocated to Cape Town and became a valued member of the Steinitz Chess Club. His decision to join Steinitz came naturally: when he mentioned his move to a colleague, he was told without hesitation that Steinitz is the best club in the country — advice he gladly took to heart.
Pierre brings a wealth of experience to the board, with a style defined by steady effort and persistence. He tends to play solidly, favouring classical time controls and engaging in well-balanced games that reflect his thoughtful approach to the sport. Among his notable achievements is finishing as runner-up among seniors in the B-division at the 2019 South African Open, a result that underscored both his consistency and his competitive spirit.
Beyond his own play, Pierre has also contributed to the local chess community in organisational roles. He briefly served as Treasurer for Chess Western Province, now known as the Cape Town Chess Federation, before stepping away from that position. His blend of over-the-board experience and community involvement makes him a respected figure within the Cape Town chess scene.
