Ashley Schüller
FIDE: 1670, CHESSA: 1663
Ashley Schüller is a long-standing pillar of Steinitz Chess Club: a top club competitor, multi-title league player and a full-time coach who has helped grow chess across the Western Cape. He regularly plays for Steinitz in Cape Town’s club leagues and festival events, and has been part of several Steinitz teams that won Western Province and South African club competitions.
Ashley brings a strong record of club-level success and match experience to his coaching. He is a multiple WP/CTCF league and club championship winner with Steinitz, has been a Western Province Schools champion and captain, and — alongside his youth sparring partner Lyndon Bouah — was co-champion of the Mackie Memorial in 1997. Those early competitive successes set the foundation for his long involvement at board-one and other top boards for Steinitz teams over the years.
In addition to his chess work, Ashley has contributed to chess publishing: he has edited and proofread volumes in Dr Lyndon Bouah’s Reflections in the Rainbow Nation collection and co-authored a book with Bouah — a reminder that his contribution to the South African chess community extends beyond the board.
